Meet the Instep dancers

Name: Libby Kane

Age: 15

How long have you been dancing at instep: I have been dancing from the age of 4 years old but the instep family knew me before I was born as my mum use to me an Instepper and she was the stage manager for the summer shows in July.

What is your favourite memory from instep:  My favourite memory at instep would have to be the residency for the summer shows. The reason for this is that through having the residency you have the opportunity to learn new material and develop phrases that will then make the whole dance. Through this process I enjoy exploring and developing technical aspects of a dance and the importance of choreography. Instep gives the change to stand out and be your own dancer as well  the person you are when performing on stage.

What has been your favourite dance at instep and why:  As I have been a contemporary dancer since the age of 4 I find the other styles difficult to learn and create material for but, in the 2014 Instep summer show we created a dance that was based on music from singing in the rain and queen. These dances required you to play a part as well as dance and where not the typical contemporary style dance that I was use to. After the residency I started to enjoy the dance much more as I had learnt the material and was feeling more confident with how to play the role required alongside the choreography of the dance.

What is the most rewarding thing about dancing for instep: For me the most rewarding thing about dancing at instep is that you get to be the dancer your are and no one will judge you on who you are or how you dance. I also feel that instep gives you the chance to show off what you can do and it also allows you to learn different styles or even style you did not feel confident about.

I am happiest when I am:   For me I am most happiest when I am dancing in front of a audience which allows people to see me perform. I am also happy to be involved in projects that help to advertise instep as it has done a lot over the years for me and I feel that by giving back I am doing my part to thank all those involved in making me the dancer I have become.

The cheesiest song on my iPod is: My cheesiest song on my iPod would have to be " #selfie"  by the chainsmokers

My role model is:  Recently, I have been a part of the  inter generational project at Instep and this has enabled me to work alongside some very talented performers. One dancer in particular has not only supported me with developing my dance styles and technique but also how to manage my own technical development and performance levels. KJ has been a role model and mentor who has enabled me to learn and develop as a dancer and develop a new appreciation for what dance can offer.

When I am not at instep I also like to: When I am not dancing at instep I am really interested in photography and the way some photo are taken, so I will go out and gather my own collection of photo.

What would be your dream job:  My dream job would have to be running my own dance company of even being part of a dance company and performing in front of an audience, showing off my own work or work from others.

In five years time I see myself:  In 5 years time I see myself just about completing university which will have enabled me to become a dance teacher or dance choreographer. This has always been the career that I wanted to achieve and from Instep and my academic study I hope that I reach my goal and fulfil this dream.
